HomeDampLab is a free resource for homeowners and renters in the United States dealing with mold, damp and musty smells. We explain what is happening in your home, what actually works to fix it, what it costs and when it’s time to call a professional, with the chemistry behind every answer.
What you’ll find here
- Guides organized in five sections: Identify, Remove, Odors, Moisture & Leaks, and Costs & Insurance.
- Free tools that run in your browser: calculators and checkers for dehumidifier size, condensation risk, cleanup costs and which cleaners are safe to combine.
- Chemistry checks that explain what common US cleaning products contain, based on their public safety data sheets.
Who is behind HomeDampLab
The site is written and run by Daniel Aznar, a final-year student in the double degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, based in Spain, who runs a professional cleaning-products distribution business. You can read more about his background, and what he does and doesn’t know first-hand, on the About the Author page.
Why you can trust what we publish
- Every figure is linked to a source, with US agencies such as the EPA, the CDC and the Department of Energy first.
- Calculations show their formula and assumptions, so you can check them.
- We never invent tests or experience, and we don’t make health claims.
- Every page shows when its information was last checked, and corrections are logged publicly.
Our full editorial process is on the How We Verify page.
How the site is funded
